Research Infrastructure

Singapore has built a strong base of biomedical R&D capabilities in its public research institutions, namely the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), the Bioprocessing Technology Institute (BTI), the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), the Institute of Bioengineering & Nanotechnology (IBN) and the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB). At each of these institutes, the best of research talents from all over the world are engaged in cutting edge research spanning the fields of genomics, molecular biology, bioprocessing, bioinformatics and bioengineering.

Research & Technology

To facilitate research that requires access to tissue and DNA, the Singapore Tissue Network (STN) was set up in March 2002 as the national network repository for clinicians in Singapore to archive tissue, sera and DNA samples of both normal and disease origins for research purposes. Funded by the Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) of A*STAR, the STN encourages sharing of analytical data among researchers and ensures that the collection, storage and use of human tissues are performed under stringent ethical, medical confidentiality and scientific standards.
MedTech Concept is a biomedical engineering initiative aimed at providing a supportive and conducive environment for medical technology innovations in Singapore. MedTech Concept is an acronym for Medical (Technology) Device Concept-incubator. Initiated by the Economic Development Board (EDB) and hosted by Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP). It also provides incubator support for medical technology start-ups to engage in applied R&D in medical technology devices and applications.
