Commercialisation

Besides establishing a strong biomedical research infrastructure, Singapore has also put in place a supportive environment for commercial exploitation of the intellectual assets created within the public research institutes. These institutes actively seek opportunities to partner industry players in order to carry out collaborative research and development.

The commercial arm of A*STAR, Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd (ETPL) was set up to facilitate industry access to the diverse competencies within the research institutes. With access to range of expertise in Intellectual Property (IP), technology intelligence, commercialisation and spin-off management, ETPL is positioned to identify, protect and exploit Intellectual Property (IP) created by A*STAR RIs for the benefit of Singapore.

Similarly, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have dedicated technological transfer offices known as INTRO and ITTO respectively, to catalyze commercialisation opportunities and facilitate interaction between the universities and the industry.
