31 Mar - Business meets Innovation at BioMedical Asia 2008


The largest and most comprehensive event of its kind where science meets business, investors meet new projects and start-ups, buyers meet sellers

Singapore, 31 March 2008 - More than 1,000 leading global biomedical industry players will convene in Singapore from 14-17 April 2008 to attend the BioMedical Asia 2008 Conference & Exhibition. Biomedical Asia 2008 will be a unique platform to learn from successful case studies in Asia and forge strategic partnerships with industry movers and shakers, with six main conferences, seven focused industry summits and masterclasses, and the participation of 200 international speakers.

Held in Singapore, a hub for the biomedical industry, the event will bring together multi-national pharmaceutical companies, biotechs, research institutions, regulators, investors, physicians and other key stakeholders. Asia's leading biopharmaceutical companies that will be represented in the conference include Chugai Pharma, Eisai Pharma, Kirin Pharma, LG Life Sciences, MerLion Pharma, Reliance Life Sciences, Shanghai Cell Engineering & Antibody Centre, Serum Institute of India. Participants will discuss latest discoveries, partnership opportunities, viable business ventures and best industry practices with leading industry representatives from the US and Europe as well as global biotech venture capitalists Novartis Venture Fund, Coastview Capital, MPM Capital and many others.

Singapore's Minister for Trade & Industry, Mr Lim Hng Kiang, will officially open Biomedical Asia 2008. Gordon Binder (Managing Director, Coastview Capital and Founder/Former CEO, Amgen Inc), Philippe Kourilsky (Chair of Molecular Immunology, College de France and Former Director General, Pasteur Institute, France), and Ansbert Gadicke (Founder and General Partner, MPM Group) will speak at the opening plenary that is moderated by Lorraine Hahn, former anchor with CNN and CNBC.

Commenting on the significance of BioMedical Asia 2008, Mr Richard Ireland, Chief Executive - Asia Pacific, Terrapinn said, "Compared with North America and Europe, the biomedical sector in Asia Pacific is set to grow swiftly given its vast potential. As the industry is still young, it will be good for us to work more closely together and achieve strategic and synergistic alignment. Our ultimate goal for BioMedical Asia 2008 is to promote the learning and use of cost-effective drug development and manufacturing solutions to improve healthcare services and its accessibility.
