Training & Attachments

The presence of a large number of global leaders in pharmaceutical and medical technology as well as local biotechnology companies in Singapore makes training and attachment opportunities diverse and readily available.

The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), which develops manpower capabilities to support industry, is the agency companies can partner with for training of its staff and for greater business growth.

A key programme set up by EDB for companies to leverage on for their training needs is the Training and Attachment Programme, or TAP. TAP aims to help companies build up manpower capabilities and prepare for growth. EDB will fund the training, both in Singapore and abroad, of engineers and other professionals to create a ready pool of trained manpower for companies.

Interested companies may call EDB Customer Service Officers at (65) 6336 2288 for more information.

Interested applicants can also look out for TAP advertisements that run on Saturdays in the Straits Times Recruit. You are eligible for the programme if you are a Singaporean or Singapore permanent resident who has graduated from science and engineering courses in polytechnic or university. You could receive training of up to 12 months at the local facilities of Singapore-based companies, or in collaboration with universities and government research institutes and centres. Training may also be conducted, for up to 18 months, at the overseas facilities of training partners.

The A*STAR Research Institutes also offer opportunities for attachments. As part of an initiative jointly organised by A*STAR and MOE, pairs of JC Level 1 students can choose to complete a project under the supervision of a researcher at one of the A*STAR research institutes. This generally takes place over the November and December School Holidays. For more information, click here.
